Dr. Eric J Skvarla

About Me
I was born and raised in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Growing up, I played soccer, baseball, basketball, and even swung a golf club at an early age. My love of athletics grew throughout high school where I lettered in soccer, basketball, and track. Along with my desire for sports, my fascination with the workings of human body grew as well.
I attended the University of Pittsburgh following high school and attained my Bachelor of Science degree in neuroscience. While at Pitt I tried out for, and earned a spot on the Pitt Football team as a tight end and played for two years.
From there, I attended Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. I focused on Sports Medicine and Orthopedic surgery during my clinical years of school. After graduating with my medical degree I completed both a general medicine and a general surgery internship again enjoying spending as much time as possible with sports medicine physicians and orthopedic surgeons.
Following completion of my family practice residency at West Penn Hospital, I traveled north to Erie and spent a year in the Sports Medicine Fellowship at St. Vincent Health System.
It was in this year that I truly gained valuable exposure to the world of sports medicine. I was a part of a medical team that cared for several area high school athletic programs and collegelevel athletes at the Penn State Behrend campus. I was responsible for caring for the Erie Explosion (formally the Storm), a profession arena football team. My sports medicine fellowship also gave me the opportunity to serve on the medical teams for mass participation events including the Erie Marathon, Presque Isle Triathlon, Erie Rugby Tournament, and the Highmark Quad Games. I also had the privilege to care for the Detroit Tigers AAA affiliate, Erie SeaWolves.

About My Practice
I have opened SKY Sports Medicine because working with athletes of all levels is my passion. I am developing a practice that will combine long-term, evidence based therapies with cutting edge advancements in the field of sports medicine.
I am working to advance my knowledge and proficiency in areas of regenerative medicine, concussion management, female ACL preventative therapies, and the biomechanics of the golf swing. Having my own practice allows me the flexibility to pursue interests that will advance my skills as a sports medicine physician. Those interests include serving on the US Olympic medical team, US Ski and Snowboard medical team, advisory positions with the PGA and LPGA. These experiences will broaden my skill set as a physician and allow me to best serve my patients.
